I think I ignored every single one of those pieces of advice.... (except maybe the credit cards - I'm not stupid! Although I did still end up with huge debts.)

Different strategies work best for different people. If you don't need to go to the lectures, don't waste your time. If you need to do additional reading, do it. And don't forget - the brain is capable of some amazing things if you deprive it of sleep for long enough....
