Studying was also new for me in college... never had to study before I got there so I never learned how.
Funny, I'm finally learning how to study now, and I'm beginning my 2nd year of law school! I have no clue how I got through my first year considering I didn't know how to study at the beginning. :P (and as a sidenote, I talked with my 1st year Torts professor last week and he asked me some questions about my undergrad years... and he couldn't believe I got into this law school with my undergraduate grades... however he wasn't surprised anymore after he heard my LSAT score, but then he couldn't understand why I tank multiple choice exams at law school... hrm... I don't understand either, now that I think about it... I've gotta stop thinking...)
OOH! Some other things I can mention that are worthy of the "moderation" comment: sleep, food, vices of any sort (including caffeine), ... um... what else... ... hrm, that probably covers it, especially with the broad "vices" category. :)
Oh yes - the one thing I didn't learn until it was almost too late -- get your general ed classes out of the way as early as possible. I went in and did all my major classes early on because I knew what I wanted to do and I wasn't interested in anything else. I learned in my 3rd year that I had to take at least 50% of my total units OUTSIDE of my major department, so I ended up scrambling and taking anything I could (and taking summer school at a local community college to transfer the credits), and BARELY made that requirement for graduation...
so find out what the graduation requirements are (especially if they're different from your Major requirements)... and dig for them (this requirement I found was hidden near the end of a section in the student handbook about the registrar) to make sure you won't go through what I did. :P
Anyway, I know I ramble - as for everything in moderation ... apply "advice" to that as well. :)
