aren't responsible for what they do" is not an entirely normal attitude in itself. Given that these crimes presuppose some mental imbalance in the person committing them, no one could be blamed for their crimes at all!
I was abused, I have a lot of violence inside me stemming from that. Each time I have wanted to do something wrong as a result of that abuse, I have faced a clear choice. Each time I have chosen another way, sometimes to my serious detriment.
This priest faced his impulses and deliberately CHOSE to embrace them. Worse yet, he was in a position of not only trust, but enhanced knowledge/belief of just how heinous those crimes were. There is NO punishment appropriate for that! |
