Now who's missing the point? by Didactylos 2003-08-23 14:13:05
I fully understand coding for fun and the good of the world. After all, I code for fun myself. But that won't pay my rent. Now that there is a downturn in the tech industry, thousands of geeks will be asking the same question: "Why am I getting nothing for all this work, when any company would pay me big bucks to do it, and these same companies are reaping the profits by using open source software?"

Currently, any developer that wants money has to keep code closed source - which is deeply against my personal principles.

Why can't people make money from writing software? Microsoft did it! It takes time and effort, so clearly it's a valuable resource.
(Do you detect sour grapes? I think I'm a little bitter.)
