Question for the D&D rules lawyer by Surgo2003-08-23 00:17:53
The Undead by TheGM 2003-08-23 07:26:06
Okay, let's look at this another way. If this were cast by some kind of Lich-esque creature, or maybe a vampire would the caster benefit as per an undead entering the area of negative energy? I'd rule 'if it wanted to' - although the negative energy is flowing outward, you can still choose to let it flow over you in the process.

Next consider that any serious necromancer is out to become a lich (unless it's either bodyproud or a goth in which case it wants to be a vampire) and you have to ask why it would want to be able to be unaffected by 'negative' energy anyway? Negative energy is good, but you have to build up slowly before you make the jump to undeath, at which point negative energy is not only good but positively delicious.

Disclaimer: None of this is canon, I made it up to justify a 'no' answer.

Addendum: Eventually this effect will make the character resistant to relevant effects, but that's part of the whole experience system. Over time you get toughened
