laptops and airport security controls by alphascorpii2003-08-23 00:33:43

g'mornin. *yawn*

make an educated guess on how many business people take their it-stuff up, into planes. per day. i doubt that security-installations that would do any harm to comparable devices could actually be used in international airports of reasonable size.

what i read: you can put it in the xray-thingy without problems, just keep it away from the metal-detector you have to walk through. as usual, you are not allowed to walk through a metal detector with anything but yourself, anyhow.

personal experience: both laptops travelled many times by plane. nothing ever damaged either one. including printers or accessoires. neither in the US nor Germany. also, no films or minidiscs or floppydiscs or whatever have been compromised.

definitively good advice: keep the batteries powered up as you may be asked to fire up the laptop - just to show that it's a usable device, not an container for something malicious. if you cant start the laptop, you might be in for some trouble, having to connect the laptop to a wall outlet to be able to start it.

and in any case: personell (hopefully) (very, very likely) has experience with laptop-bag-lookalikes and tells you well in advance on where to put it / how they will monitor it. that was usually the case with my machines when flying.

thats about it, i guess.

how come your up so early... ? ;)

best regards
