D fire can make things worse. Class D extinguishers are only needed if you know that you have exotic flammable metals / chemicals. You should know about those chemicals being on site, because your boss is supposed to tell you if they are. For any office / home situation, use the ABC dry chemical. Pain in the butt to clean up afterwards, but still easier and cheaper than rebuilding.
