An even better argument... by catharsis 2003-07-11 15:22:33
...is the fact that we can see extragalactic object such as the Andromeda galaxy (really our closest neighbor on the galactic scale, but nevertheless 2.2 million light years away) means that the light must have traveled for 2.2. million years before it got to us.

Young Earth Creationists then claim that all that light was created "in-flight", but that strikes me as totally absurd. Why would God meticulously engineer the universe to appear billions of years old, and then tell us in the Bible that it ain't so?

Oh, let me guess. God's ways are unfathomable.

-- Catharsis

(PS: There's really no need for Young Earth Creationism. The biblical creation story is a good parable of the scientific model, expressed in graphical terms appropriate for the uneducated audience 2000 years ago.)
