That's pure politics. There are precious few politicians who have been up against any opposition over a highly controversial subject that don't use the same technique against their opponents. I don't think it's particularly effective and not a very bright move politically, but it's the norm for politicians. I expect him to be a politician first and foremost and look after himself (i don't think we have ANY altruistic politicians atm) and he's doing exactly that. just because I like some of the things he's doing doesn't mean I think he's a saint or incapable of making bad judgements. I just don't think that all his judgements are bad.
