However, laws need to reflect the people that they govern. This means that they need to be changed (but carefully, and with overwhelming support only; no simple majority, please).

The current party political system in Canada really has me worried. The original constitution assumed that each representative would be relatively independent, and represent his constituents. The current party system makes the leader of the majority a de facto dictator. Both federally and provincially.

We haven't met disaster because of it - yet. I would love to see some better protection built into the political system. I don't see it being something that any sane politician would support, however. So I don't hold out much hope for improvement.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that nobody will find themself in a position to exploit those weaknesses.
