"as they surely would have been". Seems rather presumtuous that you would know what 'should have been' back then.

Now, perhaps you are a historian. I know I'm not, which is why I don't presume to offer an opinion on what 'should have been' back then.

And I really don't feel like getting into an 'age of the Earth' arguement. I really don't know how old the Earth is. The Bible seems to indicate that it is young. Science seems to indicate that it is old. But I don't know. Though I don't believe that there is 'definitive proof' either way.
