The leaders of today are in all likelyhood very much like the leaders who started the nation.

Not too many people objected when "all men are created equal" was only applied to white males with property when it was first penned. The interpretations that opened it up to all races and both genders only came later.

People are people. The founding fathers wanted themselves protected first, and then others, much like leaders today do. I've seen precious few self-sacrificing politicians in any era.
