If everyone works together, yes, it works nicely.
When you defend those freedoms even at the cost of the country you will lose your country and then what good are your rights?
As I said, you can't remove individual rights and you can't grant them all. There must be a compromise between the needs of the many and the needs of the individual. Going too far in either direction will result in the destruction of both.
If the nation is composed of individuals, what's keeping them together? You'll still wind up with a 1984-type thought police; they'll just be making sure your speech and thoughts don't offend anyone else. |
