the sunset clauses become even more controversial than the original. Take the "tax cut" debacle. When it "expires", whoever votes not to allow the taxes to return to normal by not "renewing" the "cut" will be seen to be raising taxes. Neat trick, eh? In the same way, anyone who wants to vote against renewing the Patriot 1 will be slandered as "unpatriotic" and quite probably a Communist/terrorist.
