It was the alternator. I took out the old one last night. Ordered the new one this morning when I woke up. Picked it up, went back to my car and popped it in. New alternator and battery. Turned on the car and noticed that the gas guage was reading empty. Looked closer and saw that the needle was below the little peice of plastic that keeps it from falling straight down. turned off the car and the needle hangs straight down. D'OH!

So now I'm taking a break and will fix that later tonight.
