It's been used in any number of terrible ways, and this is just current interpretation of the current politicians.

That document was used drawn up by people who thought and reasoned a certain way. As soon as other people who thought and reasoned differently came into power, the meaning changed.

It's been used to enforce slavery, justify all sorts of truly nasty events and screw many people over. It's used by criminals to protect themself from their just desserts. It can't be trampled on any more than it has already.

I think the biggest mistake that first body of ratifiers had was to accept the Bill of Rights instead of Bill of Privileges.
