to blase about their freedoms and far too many of them take them for granted. They seem to think that just being American makes you wonderful and that you don't have to do anything to enjoy all the benefits and such of being an American, and that's killing the country faster than any politician or war ever could.
As a citizen, you (the people, not you personally) have to take a certain amount of responsibility. If you have kids, you have to raise them to respect (but not be simpering spineless sheeple) authority, to help out society, even if it's not DEMANDED of you and to work to make society better.
Too many people, rich and poor, are out to see how much they can get for themselves and screw anyone who gets in their way.
