Science has a great answer to those things by Control 2003-07-11 07:12:16
One that would do most religions good to try for a change:

"We don't know."

Honestly, that's what bugs me most in these discussions. A common argument of Cultists is 'Science doesn't know everything either, you know.'
Of course I know, distinguishing between what you know, and what you don't know is a fundamental part of science. It's the religions that keep advertising them as 'providing ALL the answers', but then failing to back up their claims with anything useful. Oh it's easy to provide answers, its almost as easy to provide answers that cannot be proven wrong. It's providing meaningful answers, that can be shown to be correct or incorrect, that is the hard part.

But back to the points you brought to discussion. Most of those can be explained roughly (not in any detail, not yet maybe) by what evolution. These characteristics helped humans to survive and multiply, by providing reasons to cooperate beyond the short term benefits of sex.
