I was 11 when I announced I wasn't going to my mother's church anymore. And boy howdy, was that ever a battle. Several Sundays in a row, I'd get sent back to Sunday School and out the back door I'd go and walk the several miles home. Just took my lumps for it -- and very lumpy lumps they were, too. But I couldn't go there and pretend to believe in that nonsense. Just couldn't.
