but a beam of light then it becomes possible.
If you were to do this inside a circular wall of radius rc then the point on the wall that the light is hitting will move faster than the speed of light. This is all still OK because no information is ever travelling faster than light.
So to an observer on the wall the light reflecting off the wall would appear to move away from them in both directions at the same time but at different speeds.
Or at least that's the conculsion reached in a drunken discussion between half a dozen engineering students a few years ago. Shortly after that we introduced the rule of one non-engineer to every two engineers in any group going to the pub. It helped prevent the conversation getting too geeky.
