Those forumlae are for under 'normal' conditions. As you approach v == c, things start going wacky. The kinetic energy increases v less and less, and mass more and more. So you'd end up with a bent rod (think twirling spagetti with a fork) with heavier ends, I guess.

(I suppose that the outer edges of any spinning object will be ever so slightly heavier than the center (assuming constant gravity over the volume).)
