Dolphins enjoy being gang raped? | by Naruki | 2003-06-06 16:35:53 |

I never said, nor implied, that rape was enjoyable in any way. Unless you equate rape with sex? If so, I pity you.
My use of the word boast is because I grew up around various animals. The yawning we're talking about here is a boast. It's intended to show off that the male is strong and powerful. It's stating "I'm better than the next". As boast can be defined as "a cause for pride" and pride can be defined as "an ostentatious display", using the term boast is justified.
So because it's implied that the yawning is instinctive makes it true? You have no more evidence to support that it is than it's not.
And it is not immaterial doing it in front of other species. Any show of weakness before a potential predator is like dressing up as a moose and going out to tease hunters on opening day of hunting season.
And how is the human act a primitive behaviour vs saving face? Animals in the wild don't do it. If a creature is beaten in the wild, it does NOT make a noise once the victor walks off. It makes itself as inconspicuous as possible and avoids attention.
Many humans on the other hand put on a show to try and retain dignity they believe they've lost once they've been beaten and know they're safe from immediate retaliation. If that was primitive behaviour we exhibited as we were evolving, we'd have wiped ourselves out.
