| Essentially, paternalism is a "parental attitude" regarding rules and laws. Saving people from themselves is very much a hallmark of paternalism. A socialist government is more paternalistic than a capitalist one.
How much is too much and how much is too little? Censorship can be interpreted as a form of paternalism, as can gun control laws, or laws regarding public conduct. How far should regulatory bodies go? When does it go beyond what is necessary and sufficient and step into the realm of the excessive?
