Watership Down references aside, Hyzenthlay, I would maintain that you still have a responsibility to yourself to avoid situations that you know can result in your harm unless you have good reason to enter into them. Now, maybe the pleasure of getting stoned is sufficient reason -- it certainly is so for some people. I will even admit that, at one point in my life, it seemed so even for me. But my perception has changed over the years. Even before I had dependants at home who needed me and relied upon me, I had reached the conclusion that the drawbacks of recreational drug usage outweighed the benefits within my own ethics. At the time I made that decision, drugs stopped being as much fun, and so I stopped playing with them. It didn't require a perfect adherance to ethics, nor perfect foresight -- just a shift in my values. |
