And personally, I have trouble distinguishing between those two. Make the assumption that as you behave others around you will behave. Then examine your own behaviour for long-term effects, and make the choice that best benefits you. You will probably find that your choices are what most people would consider ethically correct. Don't lie - if you don't want to be lied to. Don't hurt others - if you don't want others to hurt you. Don't exploit others - if you don't want others to exploit you. Etc.
