Laying aside for the moment whether it is ethical to allow oneself to become addicted in the first place, which would be the most ethical choice (by each repondant's own ethics, of course):

To deny the substance of addiction to the addict, causing the pain of withdrawal symptoms?

Or to supply the addict with the substance upon which hir body has become dependant?

In this context, I am asking about actual physical addictions where it can be shown that withdrawl from the substance poses a real health threat, as does dependance on the substance. Now, in the extreme case, what choice would you make, and why?
