UFie Ethics 101 by Naruki2006-11-19 12:55:59
I got an 85 which seems low for me. by NOLAWitch 2003-06-02 10:19:15
Maybe it was the drug question. I don't know.

My dad always told me that ethics required you to do the right thing even if it wasn't the easiest, most comfortable or economical for your own interests. That's really what it boils down to: forcing your own selfish interests to take a back seat to doing the right thing. It might hurt to rat out your best friend, but he/she shouldn't have stolen in the first place. It might cost you the vet bills or the cremation charge if you stop after hitting someone's dog, but would you want someone hitting your dog and not stopping?

Another big thing involved in ethics is empathy. If you don't have it, you are probably going to be less ethical than those who do. Goofy stories from the Sav A Center parking lot: I noticed a syringe without a needle guard near a parking space containing a minivan. I went inside and told an employee to grab a broom and dustpan to remove it before some kid picked it up to play with it. Someone came out and got it. I finished loading my groceries into the car and saw a woman with two little girls and a heavily laden cart stroll up to the minivan. Did the syringe impact me personally in any negative way? No, because I'd noticed it and avoided it. Did the syringe have the potential to impact others negatively? Yes, because that mother had so many bags, she wasn't watching her kids too well aside from repeatedly telling them to get in the van (the kids were non-compliant).

What would you want others to do if the situation were reversed?
