You can't use the regular RadioShack blue LEDs for them either. These are special blue LEDs that fill the right part of the spectrum - they work on any surface - unline the RadioShack ones which really only work on white paper. And mine do alright on the fake wood too. I'm using the white one right now, my unlce & grandfather have blues and I've sold a few too.
