I know that they're the most used commands (and I know that ps aux is quite practical when things are a bit sluggish), and I kinda know grep. Or rather, I know perl regexes, which seem to be a bit different from grep...
I (temporarily) solved the problem by reboot, but that gave me a new "problem" I had to reset the permissions on /dev/dsp (the box is being used as a jukebox, so having sound is nice). Anyways, I'll look into my processes in a day or two and see what crops up.
