rc5 you might want to try. And yes it could be a bug but I'm not sure as I only used the newer patch before. Then I created two dirs for it I put the patched ones I needed driver wise in with the 2.4.20 stable and recompiled it to make use of the drivers without the other changes.(I did this to get the kernel to see my hp2300c scanner... however no sane stuff for this scanner so it's not usable under nix afik for the moment)
