2.5" Notebook Travelstar 20 GB, by pecosdave2003-05-24 06:13:27
No particular issue by Dok 2003-05-24 08:06:57
As an IBM Thinkpad Warranty technician, I am not aware of a particular issue with these drives. All drives will fail eventually. The issues with the IBM 3.5" drives are on the Fujitsu and Quantum drives. There is no factory recall for the travelstar as there is on the other drives.

If your machine is under IBM Warranty then it will be covered as long as there are no liquid stains or obvious drop related damage to the TP casing.

Often the circuitry dies on the drives and leaves the platter working fine. Perhaps the board from your 6gb could be fitted to your 20gb as a temp measure. You will need a T4 (I think!) screw driver to swap them. no soldering requirted. But this may not work at all. Look at the boards and try to determine if they are identical first.

Hope that all helps.
