A shrink told me before they are both considered PDD's... lots of things fit under the disorders umbrella called Pervasive Developmental Disorder. For autistics stimulants and some other ADD drugs don't work and have the opposite intended affect.(they can make us feel ill) A few people with duel diagnosis benifit probably. I tried some ADD meds (2 diffrent ones) and the results weren't very good actually they were kind of bad. But ADD people get paradoxial effect with drugs. ie speed calms them. With ADD people we can use drugs ment for depression and such and tho we don't have that we get a benifit from it. Zoloft can work on depression for me. But autistic wise it helps my perseverance on things(which in turn calms my anxiety disorder and mild ocd). I also feel a bit more focused. Yes autistics get unfocused too(sometimes we are way over focused) in the sense we zone out... But a few things recommended for add are also common for autistics. As well autistics, aspergers, and pddnos(aytypical autism) view ADD, Tourettes, Social Anxiety, etc disorders as cousin disorders and several online groups welcome them as family in a sense. We share some similar social issues despite ADD people typically being very social and autistics on the other end of the scale (being social on their own terms).
