is inside a Chapters bookstore.
It used to be a great bookstore. Big. Well organized. The best books. Up-to-date computer section. AND they encouraged you to collect a pile of books that looked interesting, haul them up to Starbucks and check them out over a coffee and a scone. The coffee was truly gross. But with brown sugar, honey, cinnamon and lots of cream, it was just very bad. The books made it great coffee.
Then a competitor bought a bunch of Chapters stores, including that one. Things went downhill fast. Signs went up forbidding unpurchased reading material in "the Starbucks area." As the shelves emptied, the space was filled with "bargain" books. End-of-runs, worst sellers, damaged goods. Great literature was replaced with Oprah's picks.
Before the buyout, I never saw the Chapters checkout without at least 3 busy cash registers. Last time I was there, one of the two cashiers was doing her nails. It's been a long long time since I had a Starbucks coffee.
