Bought a new MB, CPU, and HD.
Put XP on the new hard disk. Put the old XP hard-disk as slave on IDE2.
Drive was recognised by BIOS, and the Disk Manager showed it as beign there (Healthy, active, FAT32) but it didn't have a drive letter and was inaccessible.
Finally worked it out... I'd put GoBack from the Norton Systemworks package on the disk, and it does something strange and terrible to the bootblock. Fortunately you can remove GoBack from it's boot menu (after bootign from the old drive), and suddently my drives reappeared.
All very strange for this early in the morning, but at least I stand a chance of getting the computer back together before my wife works out what I did to it ;) |
