I've had long hair for 10 years or so, and recently lopped it off - its actually shorter than I can ever remember seeing it. To shave the goatee (which is a relatively new item) would be overwhelming... its amazing how attached one can get to long hair, given that its a) a renewable resource and b) a pain to maintain.
