I have gotten outer ear infections since I was a kid. All based on water getting in the ear. Fixes include killing the bacteria there. I use a triple antibiotic ointment on a cotton swab. I very carefully swab the ear canal. Be very careful. You can puncture the ear drum if not very careful. I have also used a few drops of tinture of iodine in the ear. Use cotton ball to keep it in. Also, if you hold a light bulb ( ~60 watt ) near the ear. The dry heat helps dry the ear out. Please do not touch the ear it will burn the skin. And damage the hair if too close. I now use ear plugs when ever I will get wet ( shower, tub, swimming etc. ) Hope some of this helps.
