Finding the correct search.ini by GeroZ 2003-04-24 23:08:33

Hhmm ... Tough one ...Which version of Opera are you using? I've tested OP6.05 and OP7.1.

Are you definitely sure you've modified the correct search.ini?

OP6:

It should be at c:\Program Files\Opera 6\search.ini or likewise.

OP7:

    • If you decide NOT to use different profiles for each user, it's the same, ie. c:\Program Files\Opera 7\search.ini or likewise.
    • If you decide to use DIFFERENT profiles for each user, the file resides in c:\Documents and Settings\[user name]\Application Data\Opera\Opera7\profile\search.ini or likewise (for Win2K/WinXP) or in c:\Windows\Profiles\[user name]\Application Data\Opera\Opera7\profile\search.ini or likewise (Win9x/WinME).

(Note:In either case there might be differences between English Windows versions and localized version. But I guess you'll find your way.)

So ... Everything depends on using the correct search.ini. Search for search.ini (if nothing works - use the explorer ;))on your local drives, take heed of what I've said above - and try with each of them.

Remember: Keep Opera closed while editing search.ini and/or perform a full Opera restart after doing so.
