if the leadership sees nothing wrong with corporate executives taking obscene salaries while their companies are foundering and they are laying off workers in the lower echelons, then there's nothing compassionate about them. If I give a bum on the corner ten dollars, that doesn't make me charitable in a constructive way. If I give that same ten dollars to an organization that works toward getting the homeless employment and shelter, it's more effective.

I don't doubt that Ronnie would hand out money to people he felt to be in need. I take issue with the gutting of programs that would provide long-term solutions to that need. Nobody seems to have a handle on how to provide solutions that don't perpetuate the need. It would require more complexity than most organizations care to deal with.
