Granted it doesn't happen too much. One lady kept getting arrested to prove a point and as a result of her and one other woman in another province it's legal to go topless. So I've seen the woman here who did it and also one summer several teenage girls were walking down como lake(a main road here in Coquitlam, BC, Canada) topless.
I'm a bit shy about doing it in public because general public still are top covered unless children or male. I have walked topless camping or at a nude beach(where obviously people are dressed, undressed and somewhere in between... and it's famlies there and elderly, etc it's not a big deal... nothing sexual about it tho I'm sure some would love to sexualize it). Another reason why I don't do it in general populous is I'm temperature sensitive and tho I don't tan(limited pigment in my skin<shrug>) I can briefly burn and trust me chapped nipples or burnt breasts aren't fun and they can still get tender despite sun lotion to protect them.
I had no issues nursing my son. But culturally depending on where I was I didn't do it publically. Around friends and family they saw me nurse him no problem. I also nursed in nursing rooms(the odd mall has mothers rooms where it's semi confy and quiet to nurse a child... often babies fall asleep nursing). I didn't mind those and it wasn't necisarily to keep mothers nursing from public view as much as it was a nice quiet spot away from the hustle and bustle where we could find a seat and feed our babies. More malls/public places should have such spots in them.
I don't think it's that big of a deal frankly. I've seen women nurse in restaurants on occasion, at the beach/park, etc. But yes they are discreet about how they whip out their breasts to feed their children. Part of that is american television we get which seems to have this facination with womens breasts. Like its some taboo and so risque to show them. My gosh we get commercials about "summer vacation videos seen colledge women expose themselves on film" crud. It's like um yea it's a breast what is the big deal why make it into some form of porno when all they are doing is showing their chest?? In canadian tv I don't think it's that big of a deal unless the feed may go to the US they it may well get censored. As far as I know only genetals must be covered unless specific warnings are given or things shown on a specific channel. But bizzarely enough I've caught a few glimpses of B movie british p0rn on space.<shrug> Though they showed parts they again didn't show genetals so I guess thats why it was aloud. I was a little suprised to find that channel surfing one night.
Anyways on occasion there are valid reasons for women to keep covered. History of skin cancer is one(and lets face it some men should keep covered as well and men *can* get breast cancer too btw) another might be sensitive skin and finally the last 2 are either weather(obvious reason it's too cold or too hot and could burn/chap) or support.(due to back issues from breast size or just general back issues) |
