a company get most of it. Regardless, patenting code is inappropriate since there are literally an infinite number of ways to express, in code, a particular process. Most may not be particularly intelligent, but the point is that for any given problem there are multiple ways to solve it. Copyright, on the other hand, is appropriate, as skeeg said.
