lately, such as Enron, Worldcom, etc. The sun continues to rise and set and only those lower level employees who got screwed...and the stockholders...and the local economies really care about one company in such a glorious business climate. I'm sure Philip Morris employees would be in as good a shape as former Enron employees in the same amount of time.
You are the one who said that "if PM were gone from richmond (sic) tomorrow, the state of Virginia would be ok". I didn't. I merely pointed out that there were other crop options for local farmers that they obviously haven't explored. I remember when I was a child, someone from the County Extension was out trying to get farmers in the area to plant soybeans instead of so much corn. Mostly they resisted, some even ran the guy off with shotguns, but one progressive agrarian threw in a quarter of his acreage to soybeans. When word got around that there was money in soybeans, half of the fields were converted.
Not that I really think you'll comprehend it, but what do you think happened to the horse and carriage trade when automobiles became popular and affordable? Do you think there's a big market for typewriter ribbons these days? Where did the guy who used to deliver ice go work after refrigerators became ubiquitous? |
