I know that neither Iraq nor the USA are very close to the Truth when they talk about casualities, but the US are a lot closer to it than anyone (and the journalists are, too, if they want, but that is a rare feat today, being close to Truth).

Anyways: The war in Iraq was not about the oil, and neither about WMDs, but to show that ignorance and frequent lying to the whole world will be punished.
