I'd say that attitude is exactly the problem that the US has. No matter what somebody has done, and how much you're opposed to his ideas and actions, everyone still deserves a certain amount of respect. Take a look at Germany: The highest, most valuable law in Germany is "Die Menschenwuerde ist unantastbar." meaning roughly "The personal honour of a human cannot be questioned" (anyone got a better translation?) A human stays a human, and therefor has certain rights, regardless of his past.
