if it's audio, unless it's Mogwai, which NEEDS the full spectrum of a CD, and should NOT be compressed, ogging it's fine... I usually use minidiscs for portable audio, since they're a more convenient size, and have better shock resistance. CD=>ogg=>MD doesn't introduce significant amounts of errors to my ears, so that's what I do. Of course, CDParanoia helps a lot; I've managed rips of tracks that are unplayable on my standalone with Paranoia.
