want some drive suggestions? by lord_dolphin 2003-04-24 04:55:05
In my opinion, there are 3 choices:
LiteON 48x24x48x (can be updated to 52x24x52x and POSSIBLY 52x32x52x)
Plextor 52x32x52x Premium drive (not commercially availabel yet, but SOON!)
Yamaha CRW F1 (Act fast, it's just been discontinued)

LiteON's are great with making working backups of games, and work very well with even some of the crappiest media. Also their error correcting abilities (specifically that drive) are INCREDIBLE!

The Plextor Premium drive has some VERY awsome testing abilities, and is very good with regards to writing quality, but is MUCH pickier with media then the LiteON. It does however have a few tricks that the LiteON does not, which sometimes allows it to burn certain media better, but this only applies to 3rd tier manufactured media

The Yamaha CRW-F1 is only a 44x24x44x drive, but it is the best audio ripper, and possibly still the best audio burner on the market. It also has the VERY GROOVY "Disc T@2" ability (google it!).

All three drives are VERY good in their own ways, personally, I want them ALL :D
