One Sunday (sundays, being premium-rate, (60p/minute) were quiet) we suddenly had the call queue jump from 0 calls waiting to 150, then the system crashed.
Eventually turns out a cable TV auction channel, Bid-UP, gave out our number by mistake. For the whole morning (well the bits of it where our exchange hadn't died under the strain) we were answering with "Thank you for calling Tiny, (legal gubbins about the call charges) this is not the bid-up line and we do not know what their number is. If you do not have a technical support issue with a tiny computer, please hang up now. May I take your comupter's serial or order number please?"
The first thing almost every caller said was "Huh? I want to bid on the..." |
