went to a catholic elmementary school, and even a catholic preschool. I would have to say that put a big part in what made me become agnostic. One of my teachers, a rather devoted catholic, turned it around alot for me. I didn't really start to consider myself not catholic for 3-4 years after that, but looking back, that's when me losing my faith really started to happen. I even got confirmed the year after I had that teacher, but I just wasn't into it.
I think education can change faith, but it depends. I'm into sciences, math and technology, and I've always questioned the existence of god(s). The inquiring that science gave me, led me to ask questions, and seek answers. Most of the other people in my school don't question Catholicism. They are very devoted, but they do practice, most of them believe quite a lot, and they aren't looking for another faith to practice.
Ultimitaly it depends on the person, and how they deal with their education in relation to their faith. I know alot of not so bright people that are devoted, and I also know alot of brilliant people that are devoted. Most of the people in my school that aren't too devoted any more where more turned away from bad experiences with church than questioning the existance of god. |
