Granted that Mr. Robbin's claims by bitflipper 2003-04-17 13:58:34
against the Hall of Fame and the United Way are rather over-blown, but, on the flip-side, their behavior was rather rude. To invite someone to speak and then to publicly rescind that invitation is a bit of a slap in the face. While I do not dispute the rights of these organizations to hold their own views and to express them, I think it reflects poorly on them to extend the hand of hospitality and then to pull it away as some form of "punishment" for Mr. Robbins and Mrs. Sarandon openly expressing their own views.

BTW- I would also think it equally poor manners for Mr. Robbins, for example, to use his invitation to speak at the Baseball Hall of Fame as a platform from which to voice opinions in direct contradiction to those publicly voiced by representatives of that organization. Doing such would be disrespectful of ones host. Instead, he could speak on another topic entirely, or simply refuse the invitation citing no further excuse than "for personal reasons". The whole affair need never have become such a public spectacle and verbal brawl.
