It's easier to hand out one file vs. a bunch by Freakazoid2003-04-17 12:30:25

it's apples and oranges. Zip files are compressed, but have to be uncompressed to be used. Jar files are in a format that Java understands and they are the standard method of distributing *compiled* java code. What your professor is asking you for is zipped *source* code (I would assume). When someone has a jar file they have the compiled byte code in an archive, not the source. Hence the original user's request for "how do I get the source code out of a jar". Unzipping it may get you the individual class files, but not the source code.

When you finish school and/or start working as a java programmer you will use jar, trust me.
