what I said. I pointedly said the "heavily armed *state*" meaning the govt, and their various units of enforcement, from the police up to the Natl Guard. :)
A well armed citizenry is the best guarantee of accidental deaths, unless you want to send Billy Bob and Sue the paranoid to gun class.

Reminds me of a funny story, my hick neighbor growing up had a collection of small arms in his basement. He tried to lecture me about it. He said the only reason the Ruskies didn't come over here and conquer us was because they knew the people had guns. I was about 10 years old and made him fume by asking him exactly what good he thought his 12 gauge was going to be against a Soviet battle tank. :)
